Staff Accountant

The Staff Accountant is responsible for ownership of daily and monthly account reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts. Prepare necessary journal entries and analyses for assigned accounts. Collaborate with business partners to address and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner. Identify and implement operational efficiencies and process improvements. Obtain a conceptual understanding of the business processes in order to apply that understanding to existing and new processes. General supervision is provided by the Manager, Accounting.

Responsibilities:

Accounting & Reconciliation Responsibilities

• Analyze and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts daily, weekly, and monthly as required.
• Review reconciliations to ensure they are prepared properly and follow-up on any outstanding items.
• Prepare necessary daily/ monthly journal entries for assigned accounts.
• Prepare monthly accruals using various reports and spreadsheets.
• Work collaboratively with various business partners to grow relationships and resolve outstanding issues.

Additional Responsibilities

• Answers accounting and finance related questions for internal business partners.  
• Participate in weekly/monthly rotational schedule for investment and month end related activities.
• Assist in audits and regulatory examinations.
• Cross train within department to provide backup for team members.
• Work on ad-hoc projects as requested.

Qualifications:

• Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
• 2 – 4 years of relevant accounting experience preferred
• Experience in the financial services industry a plus
• Advanced skills in primary Microsoft software applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills. Ability to understand and evaluate accounting processes.
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative with attention to detail.
• Ability to build relationships and collaborate with peers and internal customers.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
