Your safety is our top priority. We use industry leading technology and processes to keep your personal and financial information secure.
We commit to keeping you safe with state-of-the-art physical and online banking security measures
We use state-of-the-art fraud monitoring tools that monitor your account for suspicious transactions and activity to help protect you against fraud. If we detect unusual purchasing patterns or locations, we may deny or hold a transaction until we’re sure that it’s valid.
This is why we recommend you notify us when you’re traveling outside of your normal spending area – even if it’s just a few states away from where you live. Notify us of your travel plans via our Travel Notification form in Alliant Online Banking or by calling 800-328-1935.
The Alliant website, mobile apps, and other digital channels use secure protocols to ensure that data transmissions are secure.
You can register your computers or mobile devices with us so we’ll know when your account is being accessed from someone else’s equipment; we’ll then ask additional security questions to confirm that it really is you accessing the account.
Alliant Visa Credit and Debit Cards offer the added security of EMV smart chips. EMV chip cards are the global standard for card security. Enjoy improved security and protection against fraud while using your card, wherever chip-enhanced payments are accepted. Take advantage of our security tips and practices to keep yourself as safe as possible
If possible, avoid using online banking while on public WiFi networks. Don’t allow browsers to remember your password, and only log in to sites with secure browsing (look for “https” instead of “http” in the URL).
Set up passwords on all phones, tablets and computers you use. Equip your computers with virus and spyware protection software and keep your computers and browsers updated.
Creating a strong password is one of the most important steps for preventing unauthorized access. Always create different passwords for each online service you use, and never use the same password on financial sites as you use for social media accounts or email. This will ensure that even if a hacker gains access to one account, they won’t be able to access your other accounts.
Regularly monitor your online activity and check your account statements. If you notice anything suspicious, please contact us immediately. Alliant must receive notification of suspected fraud within 60 days of the suspicious or fraudulent transaction in order to file a claim.
Alliant’s easy-to-use alert system will help you monitor your accounts so fraud won’t go undetected.
Before you swipe your debit or credit card at an ATM, store or gas pump, take a good look at the card payment terminal to see if it looks suspicious. Extra parts sticking out or loose pieces on an ATM or terminal may indicate the presence of a skimming device that thieves can use to capture the information on your card’s magnetic stripe.
Be careful when entering your PIN. Pay attention to your surroundings in the checkout line or at an ATM and shield the keypad from view as much as you can while entering your PIN (Personal Identification Number). And never share your PIN with others.
Have your paychecks and dividends deposited directly to your account without worrying about checks getting lost or stolen in the mail.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) ScamAlerts blog covers a variety of scams, and you can subscribe to ScamAlerts so you’ll receive an email when a new scam is becoming widespread.
Reduce the chance of mail fraud. Sign up for paperless statements by logging in to Online Banking.
Install operating system and app updates as soon as they’re available. Also, avoid modifying your operating system (commonly called ‘jailbreaking’), which will void the warranty and expose your device to potential threats.
Prevent unauthorized access to your personal data by setting your device to lock when you're not using it.
Public WiFi is easy for criminals to access, especially if the network doesn’t have password protection. It’s a best practice to avoid accessing banking apps or other sensitive apps while connected to public WiFi. If possible, use your cell phone connection instead.
Only download apps for your device on trusted sources such as the Apple App Store and Google Play. This will protect you against fake and malicious apps that may target your data.
Add your Alliant Visa debit or credit card into mobile payment apps that use tokenization – like Apple Pay®, Android Pay™ or Samsung Pay™. Every time you pay using the mobile payment app instead of using your physical card, you help to shield your card number from fraud.
In case your mobile device is lost or stolen, you should be able to remotely wipe your data to prevent unauthorized access. Install and configure an app that will let you remotely locate and wipe your phone (example: ‘Find My iPhone’ for iOS devices).
